My Story – Crystal

1 year ago today I was hospitalized. My then fiancé, Jeff had thrown me down the stairs. It resulted in me having a broken back, broken ribs and my wrist broken in two places. After I was thrown down the stairs I was laying on the floor crying letting Jeff know that I had severe pain in my back. Jeff’s response was “good! I hope you have a broken back!” He then proceeded to throw my phone at me and then he walked off, not even checking to see if I was okay. I had called my son who was on his lunch break on the last day of his senior year to come to my home so he could take me to the ER. My son had his girlfriend and 3 other friends with him all of these children including my son were under 18. When my son pulled up to the house Jeff proceeded to yell at my son, I had to yell to my son that I could not get up. My son pushed his way passed Jeff into my home where he found me laying on the floor. My son had to pick me up and carry me to his truck. When my son was carrying me to his truck we could hear Jeff yelling at my son’s under age friends and girlfriend and was trying to fight them. My son got me into his truck and drove me to the ER. While I was in the ER there was 4 police officers that showed to take a report. The police officers had taken the statements from myself, my son and my sons friends, the police officers stayed in the ER room with me and heard the doctor give me the diagnosis of a broken back, multiple broken ribs and my left wrist broken in two places. St. Luke’s in Meridian is not a trauma center so they had stabilized me and transported me to St. Alphonsus were I was hospitalized for 3 days. Jeff got arrested and was being held on a $150,000 bond, he did end up bonding out! Jeff is now taking this case to trial which is not until October of this year! Jeff has got to get out of jail and continue to live his life as he normally would, I got to be in a back brace for 6 months, and a cast for 3 months. I have daily pain due to my injuries. I also live in fear of him finding me! Jeff has stated that if he ever sees me again, next time he will kill me. Not only did I have physical injuries but I also have struggled with mental health issues since then as well. I’m telling the entire story today to raise awareness of domestic violence and to let others know that if you are or were in a domestic violence situation there is so much support for you!!
