Taking the Torch: Why I Continue to Run for Her

By Iris Pendleton

This July, lace up your shoes and join Run4Her 2026.

Purpose drives every step. Remembrance fuels every mile. Awareness grows when voices rise together. This movement is about more than running. It is about standing up for survivors of domestic violence and taking action that creates real change.

Run4Her is not just a race. It is a mission and a public declaration that women’s lives matter.

Each registration, donation, mile, and shared post contributes to something greater. These efforts help fund survivor programs, advocacy, and critical resources through
Break the Silence Against Domestic Violence.

Carrying the Torch for Survivors

The meaning of this challenge goes far beyond a starting line or a finish line. It represents a torch passed from one woman to another, carrying courage, hope, remembrance, and responsibility.

That torch is carried for survivors, for women searching for a safe way out, and for families forever changed by domestic violence. It is also carried in honor of those who did not survive.

With every step forward, stories are told. Every mile completed, lives are honored, Dollar raised, healing becomes possible for someone still fighting to rebuild.

Say Her Name. Tell Her Story.

Every statistic represents a real person.

A daughter.
A friend.
A mother, sister, or caregiver.
A woman with dreams and a future.

Her life mattered.

The way her story ended does not define the life she lived. She deserves to be remembered fully, not reduced to a headline.

Speaking her name brings her voice back into the world. Sharing her story creates awareness that can protect others.

A Survivor’s Truth

For many survivors, the story begins with love that slowly turns into control.

Pain, fear, isolation, and confusion often follow. That reality is not unfamiliar to me.

Survival means continuing forward. Healing means reclaiming what was taken. Writing a new ending means choosing to speak, even when it is difficult.

Not every woman is given that chance.

That truth is heavy, but it also creates responsibility for those who are still here.

Voices must be used. Stories must be shared. Change must be pursued.

Awareness Saves Lives

Stories hold power.

They help others recognize that control is not love. Reveal warning signs that are often overlooked. Remind survivors that they are not alone and that help exists.

Support is available through the
National Domestic Violence Hotline,
which provides 24/7 confidential assistance.

Why Run4Her Matters

Run4Her turns awareness into action.

Funds raised support essential services such as emergency safety planning, shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, and education. These resources give survivors the opportunity to rebuild their lives with stability and support.

Leaving an abusive situation is only the first step. The journey that follows often requires rebuilding finances, confidence, identity, and a sense of safety.

Every contribution helps create that path forward.

I Will Run for Her

This run represents more than personal effort. It represents collective purpose, honors the woman who was not believed, stands for the one whose protective order was ignored, supports the mother protecting her children, remembers the woman who planned to leave but never had the chance, uplifts survivors learning how to live again without fear.

It carries the weight of every life lost too soon.

Taking the torch means refusing to look away. It means speaking for those whose voices were silenced and ensuring their stories continue to be heard.

The Finish Line Is Not the End

Crossing the finish line marks progress, not completion.

The work continues through advocacy, education, and support. Communities must listen, believe, and stand beside survivors long after the race ends.

The responsibility to create change does not stop.

The torch remains in motion.

Stories continue to be told.
Lives continue to be honored.
Hope continues to grow.

Run4Her 2026 is more than a moment. It is a movement.

And that movement continues with every step forward. run4herchallenge.com. btsadv.org
