Post Traumatic Growth: Thriving and Finding Meaning After Trauma

We have all heard the phrase,  “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” As survivors of domestic violence, this saying can be hard to grasp. It can leave you wounded, with both visible and invisible scars. It can sometimes be hard to imagine you will ever recover from the trauma you faced, let alone come back stronger.

Stability Created from the Inside Out

Leaving abusive relationships may not immediately equate to true healing or good mental health. True healing and stability occurs from the inside out.

Healing Through Art Therapy

Finding community through art not only can provide survivors of domestic violence with that sense of safety, but it does so through a form of self-care. The path of healing can be accessed by getting out your colored pencils, paints, or ballroom Youtube video and seeing how far it takes you.

What Does it Mean to be In a Strong Relationship?

How can you tell if you have a strong relationship with the new person you are dating? After all, your abusive situation left you feeling unsure, doubtful, fearful, and hesitant. You became accustomed to second-guessing yourself at every turn.

Learning to be Independent

Learning to be independent after our abusive relationships is something we may have great difficulty in doing. We are so accustomed to living by their rules and their way of life that we don’t know anything else. We don’t know how to step, speak, and live. We need to relearn everything all over again.

Survivor Retreat Helped Heal My Shattered Heart

Every year Break The Silence Against Domestic Violence holds a Survivor Sister’s Retreat. During retreat we experience a variety of workshops and activities to educate, empower, and connect with each other. Here we encourage each other to step outside of our comfort zone to truly experience healing like never before, and experience a lifelong transformation alongside our survivor sisters.
