Terrified and Trembling, I Fought Against My Abuser

terrified

By Survivor Taylor

**The following is written by a survivor of domestic violence and abuse who’s tale of her terrified escape may be too graphic for some. Names have been changed to protect all involved.**

Strangled…. I laid there, not knowing what to do. If I should move. “Will he finish the job?” I ask myself.

I Was Terrified

I quickly gather myself and try to get up, I run for the car but he catches me right when I get to the passenger side door. He rips my phone and keys out of my hand and throws them.

As he’s laying on top on me in the car, with his hands around my neck all I can think about is my family.

Will I see them again? What would they think of all of this? Who will take care of them?

I make one last go and elbow him in the nose as blood pours all over me, steaming hot and smelling of iron. But enough momentum to get him off of me in time to run and grab my keys and my phone.

I can hear a list of curse words coming from his mouth when he starts chasing after me, luckily I got back in the car and was able to lock him out. I peeled off into the back alley, not able to catch my breathe and blood pouring down my face.

Getting Away and Running for Help

I screech to my mothers airbnb where she safely lets me in and takes care of me. All the while, I’m covered in blood, bruises from head to toe and I’m missing mounds of hair.

I didn’t realize through all the strangulation but he had been punching me and ripping handfuls of my hair out.

The Last Time I Will Be Terrified by Him

Was this the first time? No, was it the last time, yes.

5 years later, I’m here to still tell my story.

In hopes that it finds the right people and will help along their journey. It takes women up to 7 times to leave… but there’s always a ways out.

Always.
