As we get ready for our upcoming Angel Fund, I’d like to share some of my successful tips with you!Â
Don’t Stress
Getting donations is a lot easier than you think. Believe in your cause; believe in what you are presenting. Do not assume that you will get rejected. You are presenting an opportunity for them to help, not asking for a favor. You would be surprised how many people have been affected by domestic violence and want to help. Some people donate because it helps them heal from a domestic violence issue.Â
Make a Connection
Make sure your appeal has an emotional connection as well. People tend to contribute when they feel connected to the cause. Share your story, feature a story, share what BTSADV has done for you and explain exactly where the money will be used and how it provides services for survivors. Make sure to state that any amount is appreciated.Â
Give an Incentive
One thing I do each year is either get something donated or buy an item and have a door prize. This way, you are getting your donation, and they are possibly getting an incentive in return. Last year I donated a Disney basket for BTSADV at $5 for one ticket, $10 for three tickets, $25 for eight tickets, or $50 for 25 tickets. I raised almost $2,000 for BTSADV and the winner got to go to Disneyland for only $10.
Be Gentle with Yourself & Thank Your Donors
Remember its okay to be rejected, just remind them any small donation they give will truly make a difference. When someone does donate, make sure to show your appreciation with a handwritten thank you note.Â
