My Story of Abuse

abuse

By Survivor Iris

This story of abuse happened over the course of eleven years.

I was a single young mother of one beautiful boy.

Later, I found a man who seemed almost perfect.

As time went by he began to show his true self.

The Warning Signs

By the time we started seeing the warning signs, I was pregnant and fully took on the mother role to 4 additional children he had by another woman. Not realizing how much that took away from my son.

Mothering all these children who desperately needed a good mother figure in their lives only pushed him further away through out the years. And caused him to question and no longer trust my decision-making.

This man went on to abuse us physically, mentally, and financially over the course of eleven years.

Until one dreadful day, yet another argument I’d found out after he proposed that he’d been in a secret relationship for almost a year. She called his phone, and I answered.

After The Disillusionment

He proceeded to lift me almost 6ft in the air and body slam me on the concrete floor. I was unresponsive for what felt like an eternity.

Finally, I came to cause I could hear my son’s voice in the distance, screaming.

“My mom, you killed my Mom”.

The man continues his rampage and pins my son to the wall by his neck when he comes to my aid. When I finally got on my feet, he slammed me again.

“That night I was beaten within a centimeter of my life.”

Fractured ribs could have easily punctured my lung. We moved into a new place seeking help through county services. They followed our case plan, staying on course with counseling services and other required programs.

Following the criminal case of our abuser, he was facing some pretty serious charges.

During trial, the video of that terrible night was used as discovery. This would be the first time he saw himself for what he’d truly done in an effort to hide a second relationship from his family.

At the end of trial he was found guilty of his charges and during the recess he went to our home where he committed suicide by self inflicted gun shot wound to the head.

“He never faced his crimes.”

This story of course comes with more details and unspeakable amounts of abuse that I am more than happy to share.

I also have important things that I have learned through out this experience that may benefit hopefully even save a life.
