My Story – Carolanne

I met what I thought was this charming man. I would be sent flowers, showered with nice loving messages and all the things you would want in life. It turned out to be the worst 5 years of my life. What I thought was a fairytale was in fact a double life full of psychological cruelty. I could never quite process the full extent until after I had left, which in itself was one of the most horrific experiences of my life. I had attempted to finish things and collect my things and he called the police smirking that I was ‘ stealing ‘ his things. When they arrived they could clearly see the true situation and thankfully to this say I’m grateful for that. He would paint me as crazy to the world behind my back while proposing to me and protesting I was the love of his life. Tell women that he was single and I was a nut job while living with myself and my children. One night in particular tried to convince me I had ‘ had a dream while sleeping ‘ so that he could try to cover up his behavior. I would have seizures with the stress while he say on the couch watching and would post selfie’s of himself up 5 mins afterwards like it was irrelevant to his online persona. When I left he sent me a lawyers letter threat to try to silence me from speaking up about my life and how horrific it was. Never any remorse or empathy. I would regularly say I would rather have taken a punch than the effects mental abuse can cause to a person and to this day I still think that’s the saddest sentence I’ve ever said. I think more awareness needs to happen with the lasting effects men like this can have on women and the signs of spotting them more well known.
